How to Use CBD Tinctures to Make Your Own Skincare Products

Cannabidiol — or CBD — is a compound found in industrial hemp. It works directly with the system in your body that regulates physiological balance. As a compound, CBD can be ingested in your morning beverages, smoothies or even in meals (for example, as an oil in your salad dressing) or applied topically in the form of an oil or cream.

And while a myriad of CBD-infused face serums, body butters and face masks exist on the market, in reality it’s simple to create your own CBD skincare products from the comfort of your own home — and at a fraction of the price. In fact, all you’ll need — in addition to the ingredients for each recipe listed below — is Vitagenne’s Pure Wellness tincture made from MCT oil and pure, organic CBD isolate made from non-GMO Kentucky hemp. It’s versatile enough to be taken internally as a part of your daily routine as well as become a core component of your topical skincare remedies!

DIY CBD Skincare Recipes

Making your own moisturizer is easier than you think. Not to mention it’s a cleaner, more cost-efficiency way to keep your skin hydrated regardless of the season. You’ll know exactly what ingredients are in the product, that it’s ethically produced and not tested on animals, and you can even adjust the recipe to suit it to your own unique skincare needs! With a few simple ingredients, you’re half an hour away from smooth, nourished skin. Remember to add vitamin E oil to lengthen the lifespan of your body butter. Keep out of the light, and use a swab or spoon to scoop the mixture of the jar, rather than your fingers, to avoid contamination.

Start to finish: 30 minutes
Servings: 30
1/4 cup shea butter
1/4 cup beeswax, grated
2 droppers of Vitagenne Pure Wellness CBD Oil
1/3 cup aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)

Sterilize a jar and lid in boiling water for 10 minutes.

In a double boiler, melt grated beeswax and shea butter. (If you don’t have a double boiler, float a glass or metal bowl in a pot of boiling water.)

Remove the beeswax and shea butter from heat when melted.

Once cool, spoon mixture in a blender and add the aloe vera. Add vitamin E oil, if using.

Whip for 2 to 4 minutes or until smooth and silky.

Store CBD skincare moisturizer in a cool, dark place.

Start to finish: 5 minutes
Servings: 1
1/2 cup plain organic yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 dropper Vitagenne Pure Wellness CBD Oil
1/2 an avocado

In a small bowl, mash the avocado.

To the bowl, add yogurt, honey, and CBD oil and mix until a thick paste forms.

Gently apply the mask to the face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and gently pat your face dry. Moisturize as normal.

Homemade CBD salve with coconut oil & shea butter

I am very picky when it comes to what I put on my face as I have super sensitive skin.
During most of my childhood and teenage years I had regular eczema flare-ups. Fortunately I managed to cure it with profound lifestyle changes, but the whole experience made me very mindful about the products that I use.
CBD became one of my skincare favorites about 4 years ago and I just love it! It nourishes my skin, improves my complexion and speeds up healing of irritated or damaged skin.
If you’re curious about the amazing health benefits of CBD and want to know how to make your own homemade CBD salve, then this article is for you.

As you probably know, diet and lifestyle have a huge impact on our skin, as well as what skincare products we use.
Over the past decade I’ve only been using natural, non-toxic skincare products and the transformation has been truly impressive.
I’m a fan of pure ingredients and simplicity. If something works, I’ll stick with it for a long time. CBD is one of those ingredients.

CBD: Cannabidiol

CBD, which stands for Cannabidiol is derived from the hemp plant. It’s known for its strong medicinal properties and can be used orally as well as topically.

Although hemp is a variety of cannabis, CBD is non-psychoactive, which means you won’t get high from it. The high comes from another part of the plant: the THC component.

The powerful neuro-protectants in CBD have shown very positive results in different fields ranging from pain relief, anxiety reduction, an improved sleep cycle, brain function stimulation, cell regeneration, to treatment of different types of cancer.

You can find more links to scientific articles about CBD’s medicinal properties in my recipe for CBD muscle rub. I use it to treat sore muscles and different types of injuries.

CBD for skin:

→ contains powerful antioxidants, which help protect your skin from harmful free radicals.

→ is anti-inflammatory, which calms your skin and reduces redness.

→ stimulates cell regeneration.

→ deeply moisturizes and nourishes your skin.

→ is rich in linoleic acid, oleic acids, omegas 3 and 6, which help improve skin elasticity.

→ speeds up the skin’s healing process.

→ soothes skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne etc.

→ is suitable for sensitive skin.

I have noticed most of the above after a relatively short period. That’s amazing, because I am much into maintaining a fresh and youthful appearance and you know what a big role healthy skin plays in that!
Nowadays CBD is part of my regular skincare routine and I also take it orally.

From all of my CBD cream experiments, this homemade CBD salve made with only 3 ingredients is by far my favorite.
I use organic virgin cold-pressed coconut oil, raw organic shea butter and pure CBD extract for it.

It’s great as a facial serum, powerful, yet gentle enough to use on the sensitive skin around your eyes.
I literally feel how my skin absorbs it and notice what it does for it.

CBD and coconut oil

CBD is fat-soluble, which is why it needs to be mixed with fat for proper absorption.
Coconut oil is especially good for this, because it contains 92% saturated fat.
What’s more, this type of saturated fat (medium chain fatty acids) is much easier and faster absorbed by our body than other types of fats.

So to get the maximum benefit from your CBD, combine it with a good quality coconut oil.

Which CBD brand is the best?

The rising popularity of CBD has resulted in many brands offering CBD products.
While it’s nice to have a lot of choice, it can also be confusing. The type of plants, extraction method, use of pesticides and level of dilution all make a big difference when it comes to quality.
It can be tempting to use a product that seems to offer more value when it comes to the bottle size. But if most of the content is carrier oil and you eventually need to use more of it, is it still worth it?

My advise is to go with a product that really works for you from a brand that you trust.

For me this brand is Endoca. They produce some of the highest quality CBD products in the world made from 100% organic hemp grown in Denmark.
All of their products are free from synthetics and pesticides.
Endoca applies strict quality control, is GMP certified and verified by third party laboratory testing.
They also supply hospitals with their CBD products, which says a lot about the quality.

What’s very important to me is that they extract the oil through the environmental-friendly CO2 extraction. The low temperatures of this gentle method ensure that the full spectrum of the properties is preserved.
Endoca controls the entire process from seed to shelf and works closely with biochemists and neuroscientists.

Their products are very pure and concentrated, so you only need a little bit. I love taking their CBD oil before I go to sleep or in my drink during the day.
The oil has a strong herbal taste which is a good indication of quality for me. For some people this might be a thing to get used to at first. If you are taking it orally and find that it’s too strong for you, mix it with a natural sweetener or add it to your drink.

If you have any questions about Endoca, it’s easy to get in touch with them through their website chat. They are very helpful and knowledgable. Plus they are fast to answer.
Endoca ships worldwide and the ordering process is very straightforward.

Homemade CBD salve

2 tbsp organic virgin coconut oil (buy here)
1 tbsp organic raw shea butter (buy here)
pure CBD extract (buy here)

Melt the shea butter and coconut oil au bain marie. You do this by putting them in a bowl placed in a pan with shimmering water on low heat.
The shea butter needs a little longer, so start with melting it first and then add the coconut oil.

Once they’re both fully melted, remove the bowl from the heat and let it cool off for a few minutes, before adding the CBD extract. Stir well to make sure everything is equally mixed.

Pour the mixture into a container and let it solidify. You can put it in the fridge for a bit if you like, but there is no need to store it there.

CBD quality

The amount of CBD extract depends on how strong you want your homemade salve to be and also which type of CBD you use.
I really recommend consulting with a CBD producer. Talk to someone who has the knowledge and who will be happy to provide you with all the information you need.

Each CBD extract is different, so it’s always good to do some research.

In case you were wondering: CBD extract is what CBD oil is made of and is a stronger, more concentrated form of CBD. It contains the properties of the whole plant, which makes it the most natural form of CBD.

You can use CBD oil instead of the extract if you prefer, but for the best results you will either need a more potent concentration oil or a higher dosage of a lower concentration oil.

Note: some natural ingredients such as coconut oil melt at higher temperatures.
Their properties stay the same and you can put your homemade CBD salve in the fridge for an hour to solidify again.
Just make sure to use a container that protects the content from leaking, especially if you’re carrying it with you in your bag etc.
